Sometimes clients are shocked to find when they leave a quilt with me, that it may be several weeks before they get it back. This is not because it takes this long for me to do their quilt, but usually there are many ahead of them in the queue. Depending on the style of quilting chosen, a quilt top may take from a few hours to a few days to quilt, and I treat every quilt top as having equal importance, and try to do the very best that I can for every single job. It may be my thousand and first quilt, but it may be the very first quilt for that client, and therefore, extremely important for that particular client. I never cut corners, and always say to myself: "What would I do if this were MY quilt.?" So, please be patient, remember this quilt of yours is going to be unique and special, and likely outlast the maker and the quilter, so a few days here or there makes no difference! |

what do I need to bring? 1. Your quilt top, preferably nicely pressed, especially if you require stitch in the ditch work to be done. I do charge for the time if a quilt needs to be pressed before it goes onto the machine. 2. Your backing. Backing should be pre washed, straightened, and joined if necessary so that it is at least 10cm bigger than the quilt top. The SELVEDGE SHOULD BE REMOVED from the seam, and seam pressed OPEN. 3. Your wadding if you wish to supply your own. Quilt Workshop does supply both wool and cotton wadding, and also has a small range of wide, good quality backing fabrics in classic colours. 4. You do NOT need to baste your quilt layers together. What sort of quilting should I choose for my quilt? Consider what the quilt needs in terms of decoration and stability. Plain areas will show fancy quilting, busy prints will not. Consider who is to receive the quilt, a child or NQP (non quilting person) may not appreciate expensive custom quilting, you might save this luxury for something you have made for yourself, or some other extra special Project. Lastly, consider cost. Custom work looks fabulous and costs at least double simpler continuous quilting. Continuous designs are becoming more varied and interesting, and look wonderful too. How much will it cost? This depends on the size of quilt, as I charge by the square metre. Pricing for continuous starts at around AU $40 per square metre. So a double quilt around 2m x 2m is 4 square metres, will cost about $160. Custom work is at least double, depending on the density and intricacy of the stitching. The best way is to phone, email, or bring in your quilt top, and we can discuss designs and pricing.
how
long will it take?
Quilts are done strictly
in
the order that they are received.
Continuous
designs generally come back to their owners more quickly,
custom work ties up the machine for much longer. So... the rule of thumb
then is: "First in, fastest quilted!" It's a good idea then to
drop your top in as soon as it is done. If there are only a few ahead of
you in the job list, it will be ready to come home to you in a fortnight
or so, if I am busy you may wait up to 12 weeks for custom work.
